Is York synonymous with bad management?

I honestly thought that I'd heard every underhand trick that inHuman Resources Departments can play from my time working at the City of York Council, but York Citizens' Advice Bureau even managed to top that!

To dismiss a respected volunteer, of long-standing service, on trumped-up charges, with no explanation was bad enough.

To escort him from the building as if he were a common criminal, without even telling him the extent of the reasons for his dismissal was despicable.

To refuse him an opportunity to defend himself at an Appeal Hearing, and to pack that Hearing with acquaintances of the Director was unforgivable.

Now, finally, we have some sense!

John Stoker, conducting an independent review, as ordered by the national CAB, has concluded that there had been a "failure of management" at York CAB and "shortcomings in governance".

The Director in York has effectively been removed and the Trustees have resigned. They were told to apologise to the volunteers at the CAB who had stuck by their colleague. He has been exonerated.

It warms the cockles of your heart. Well done John Stoker.

However, it makes you wonder why it takes an independent outsider to come in and tell York CAB what an outrageously unjust decision that was. I wonder from where did they receive their inHuman Resources advice?
