Military standards on display for Trafalgar Day parade

The Trafalgar Day parade moves down Parliament Street
THE standards of various military associations were paraded through the streets of York during the annual Trafalgar Day celebrations.
Members of the associations gathered at St Sampson’s Square yesterday morning before marching to All Saints’ Church in Pavement, where a service was held.
The members then made their way down Coney Street to the Mansion House where the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Keith Hyman, took the salute with the rest of the civic party.
Other VIP guests included the national president of the Royal Naval Association, John McAnally The associations finished the day with lunch at the Clarence Club.
Pauline Johnson, secretary of York Royal Naval Association, said: “It was excellent – there were lots of standards on parade from different branches and the Railway Institute Band played for us.
“A lot of the older boys are no longer with us, but we have got a good number of people to support us.”
