FRIENDS and family of possibly York’s oldest woman gathered at her home to celebrate her 103rd birthday.
Doris May Alderson, a grandmother of 12, turned 103 on Saturday, and celebrated the landmark at her home in Woolnough House in Tang Hall.
Born in 1909 in Wheldrake, Mrs Alderson was the daughter of Charlie Leaf, whose butchers shop served the area for many years.
Looking forward to the celebration, Mrs Alderson’s son Eddie Leaf, 73, thanked staff at the home and said: “Heck, 103 – you just can’t believe it can you? I know she will be happy just to see everyone. I think she must be getting on to be one of the oldest people in York.”
Mrs Alderson shares the special day with her second great-great-grandson, who was born on the afternoon of her 100th birthday.
