FILM buffs with a stash of memorabilia have been urged to contact the organisers of a collectors’ fair in York.
The Movie Buff Collectors’ Fair is to be held at the Royal York Hotel on December 2 and organiser Nick Andrew said he hoped to better last year’s numbers to ensure the movie fair can continue to visit York.
He said: “There were about 500 people at last year’s York event, compared with one or two thousand at others in Hull.
‘‘I love the city and want to keep the fair in York, but it’s down to the dealers making money and us getting footfall through the door on the day.”
The 2012 fixture will see national dealers, collectors and lookalikes in attendance and Nick said he already had a special guest booked.
“After the success of last year’s event, we’re happy to come back to York for the second time and we want to bring some more excitement to the event, so we’re pleased to announce the attendance of Shane Rimmer, who was in Thunderbirds and several James Bond movies.”
Shane, who voiced Scott Tracy in the classic television series, also appeared in Star Wars Episode IV, and the Bond movies You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever and The Spy Who Loved Me. More recently, he appeared in Spy Game and Batman Begins.
Nick said he was also in talks with Dave Prowse, better known as Darth Vader and the Green Cross Code Man, to appear and would also like to hear from York residents who have something to show.
He said: “We’re going to have costume groups there this year, and specialist dealers selling film and television memorabilia.
‘‘We’re always keen to hear from anyone who wants to exhibit at the event and anyone with memorabilia to display or sell can get in touch.”
For more information, or to inquire about exhibiting, go to moviebuffs.co.uk or phone Nick on 07812 859205.
