A band from North Yorkshire have been playlisted by Radio One and are receiving rave reviews from some of the nation’s favourite DJs.

Summer City can be heard every day this week on each Radio One show with their debut single We Were On A Break as part of an initiative to promote unsigned bands. Their first play on national radio was on Monday’s Fearne Cotton show.

The band members are York College A-Level student Benji Adams, 17, on guitar and vocals, Kit Parker, 17, on bass, Ben Reynard, 18, on drums and 19-year-old Alex Gath-Walker on synth and vocals.

The boys formed the band while at school in Ripon and have been together since their early teens.

They supported The Dead Famous at Fibbers in York earlier this month and have played in front of 800 people at Flamingoland.

Their next gig in York will be at Fibbers on December 2 supporting Me vs Hero.

Lead singer and guitarist Benji said: “It is surreal to hear ourselves on Radio One and since the news came out it has been a bit manic with lots of congratulations and interest in our music.

“We just love writing songs that people want to party to and we love playing live. It is our passion and this national exposure is a great help.”

One of their idols, Mark Hoppus, of Blink 182, is a big fan. He described their debut single as “one of my favourite songs of all time”.

The music video for We Were On A Break was shot in a car park in Harrogate.

The single is available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
