POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two men were assaulted in York.
The incident happened at 6.30pm on Friday, October 12, when two men from Leeds were walking along Nunnery Lane towards the railway station.
Officers said the men were approached from behind before they were assaulted. Both men were knocked unconscious, and one suffered a broken ankle.
A member of the public assisted the men, before they were taken to York Hospital for treatment, and is believed to have witnessed the assault.
Detective Constable Martin Hinchliffe, of York CID, said: “I would like to thank the person who helped the victims after they were assaulted. Unfortunately they did not leave their details with either of the men and I urge the witness to come forward as I believe that they may have vital information about the people responsible for the attack.”
Anyone who can help to identify either the person who came to the assistance of the victims, or those responsible for the assault, should contact York CID on 101, email martin.hinchliffe@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
