UPDATED: Six arrested in connection with York bank robbery

A FURTHER two men have been arrested in connection with a bank robbery in York, bringing the total number of arrests so far to six.

Officers arrested a 23-year-old man from Merseyside last night and a 26-year-old man from York was arrested this afternoon, in connection with the incident which happened in Acomb last week. Both men remain in police custody.

On Saturday, a 23 and 24-year-old man from York were arrested, while a 22-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both from Wallasey in Merseyside, were arrested in Merseyside on Thursday.

The robbery took place in Acomb at just before 10am on Thursday. Four men in balaclavas were believed to have been lying in wait for a G4S security guard delivering cash to the HSBC bank.

The suspects fled in a black Vauxhall Zafira car, which was found burnt-out in Celtic Close, off Beckfield Lane. The cash-box was found in Carr Lane.

The four other people have been released on police bail while the investigation continues.
