Witnesses help in manhunt following raid on HSBC bank in York Road, Acomb

WITNESSES have come forward with vital information about a bank robbery in York, police say.

Officers have thanked all who responded to their appeal following Thursday’s attack on a security guard outside the HSBC in York Road, Acomb, but they say the investigation is continuing. A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said last night: “Police inquiries to trace those responsible for the robbery remain ongoing. This is a very serious incident and the sooner we have the suspects arrested, the better for all concerned.

“The investigation team greatly appreciate the public support and vital information that has come forward in response to the media appeal. Further information that could assist officers should be passed on without delay.”

Four men in balaclavas are believed to have been lying in wait for the G4S security guard. They stole a cash box as he entered the bank. The suspects fled in a black Vauxhall Zafira car, which was found burnt-out in Celtic Close, off Beckfield Lane. The cash-box was found in Carr Lane.
