British Legion prepares to remember
9:10am Friday 12th October 2012 in News
THE Royal British Legion in York is preparing for a series of Remembrance events next month.
The branch will rededicate the Garden of Remembrance in Duncombe Place at 10.30am on Saturday, November 3.
Members of the public will be invited to lay small wooden crosses in memory of loved ones who have passed on.
The branch padre, the Rev Jane Nattrass, will conduct a short Service of Remembrance, while the Golden Rail Band will play incidental music and a bugler will sound the Last Post and Reveille.
The following day, the Festival of Remembrance will be staged at York Barbican at 7pm, with tickets still available from the Barbican box office.
A week later, on Remembrance Sunday, branch members will assemble at the Punch Bowl in Stonegate by 10.30am and march to the Memorial Gardens for a short service.
This will be followed by a march back to Stonegate, passing the Mansion House, where the salute will be taken by the Lord Mayor, Coun Keith Hyman.
At a recent branch AGM, Ted Griffiths was re-elected as president, John Lebbon as chairman, Mike Hogan as honorary secretary and Paul Bray as treasurer.
