Alcohol seizure powers in focus

A CONSULTATION on plans to widen the area police are able to seize alcohol from in York has started.
City of York Council is running a consultation on a single Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) which will widen the area in which the police are able to seize alcohol.
There are currently 19 DPPOs in operation across the city at locations where antisocial behaviour is linked to alcohol and which have proved to be a successful means of tackling the problem, the council said.
But Safer York Partnership has suggested the DPPO’s displace the problem to neighbouring areas and it has been proposed that a single DPPO is made which allow police to confiscate alcohol when it is linked to antisocial behaviour.
