A MAN has been charged in connection with the death of 16-year-old Poppy Rodgers.

York College pupil Poppy, of Long Marston, was taken to hospital in the early hours of April 20 after becoming critically ill in a house in Tang Hall Lane and later died in hospital.

Yesterday a 24-year-old local man was charged with supplying her with a Class A controlled drug (4-methylamphetamine).

He was also charged with another count of supplying a class A drug, four counts of attempting to supply a Class A drug and possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

He is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on October 31.

Det Chief Insp Nigel Costello, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “The thoughts of North Yorkshire Police are with Poppy’s family and friends, who have shown great dignity in these difficult times.”

Following her death, Poppy was described as a “beautiful, funny and charming” girl by her parents, who said they would miss her terribly.

Ann and Mark Rodgers said their daughter, Poppy, was a “bright young girl with the world ahead of her”.
