Internet goes bananas over bunch of mates

THIS bunch of friends have discovered their fancy-dress costumes for a night out in York appealed to hundreds of thousands of people – after a picture of them dressed as bananas earned them instant global stardom.

The group headed into the city-centre on Saturday night to celebrate a combined birthday and leaving party, but as they drove along Pavement, they were snapped by a passer-by in their bright yellow attire while crammed into a Vauxhall Corsa.

The bunch of bananas driving picture has now gone viral on websites across the world, with 579,000 views on just one particular site – proving this was one fancy-dress idea which has really got under people’s skin.

Rob Rudge, 23, from Heworth, was among the mates who took a tropical approach to dressing for a night on the town – the others being Nick James, Dan James and Zac Douglas, all from York – and he said: “I can’t believe it, but it shows people have got a real sense of humour.

“Nick found out about it first and texted me to let me know a picture of us dressed as bananas had made it on to the internet.

People had thought it was pretty comical when we were out in York and it seemed to put a smile on their faces, but we definitely didn’t expect this.”

The celebration was for the banana-flavoured quartet’s friend Paul Williams, who was marking his 24th birthday and also moving to a new job in Plymouth.

In keeping with the spirit of the night, he was in another car, just behind the group, dressed as a gorilla.

“We bought the costumes and so we might have to take them on a night out somewhere else now,” said Rob.
