Harry Baines and Rachel Speight-McGregor urge everyone to stand up to cancer
A MAJOR new fundraising campaign has urged York residents to Stand Up To Cancer.
Rachel Speight-McGregor, Cancer Research UK Area Volunteer Manager for York, and local cancer survivor Harry Baines, are urging men, women and children in the region to get involved with the campaign, run by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4.
Harry, 22, said: “I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 19. It’s such a rare cancer that the doctors said I am the only person in my age group, in the UK, that has been diagnosed with it.
“It was a complete shock. You don’t think that it will ever happen to you. But thanks to research, I am still here. I am so grateful for the treatment that saved my life so I’m Standing Up To Cancer.”
A fundraising day will be held in the Folk Hall, New Earswick from 11am to 10pm on Friday, October 19, with live entertainment and fundraising stalls. Wristbands in support of the cause can also be bought from Cancer Research UK shops, Tesco, and TK Maxx stores throughout this month.
