KEEN photographers are being urged to get snapping to celebrate the 150th birthday of one of York’s best-known spots.

On January 8, it will be 150 years to the day since Lendal Bridge opened to the public and we have teamed up with City of York Council to mark the anniversary.

We have launched a photography competition running from now until the end of the year, inviting people to send us their pictures.

Local businesses York Boat and The Maltings pub (formerly The Lendal Bridge Hotel) have donated prizes for the winners and the the photo chosen by our judges will be displayed in The Press, on our website, in the reception of the council’s Guildhall and on the council website.

Martin Oates, picture editor at The Press, said: “Lendal Bridge is a very photogenic piece of York and a much-photographed landmark.

“We are looking forward to receiving readers’ pictures to help celebrate the bridge’s 150th anniversary.”

To enter, you can send photographs by post to Gavin Aitchison, The Press, 76-86 Walmgate, York, YO1 9YN, or email photographers@thepress.co.uk or upload pictures to the flickr group at www.flickr.com/groups/lendalbridge/

If emailing pictures, please put “Lendal Bridge competition” in the subject line and include your name and a telephone number on which we can contact you.
