Upgraded security move for Bishopthorpe Palace

NEW security measures have been approved at the official residence of the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.

The plans for Bishopthorpe Palace will see two rising bollards installed at the entrance to the Gatehouse after the Church of England’s Church Commissioners said an security upgrade was required.

The gate, which allows pedestrian access to the palace, will also be fitted with an electronic locking mechanism, while intercom receivers will be placed around the palace building itself.

The Commissioners’ application said the reasons for the extra measures were “strictly private and confidential”.
