Rudston wind turbine plan withdrawn

CONTROVERSIAL plans for a 218ft wind turbine near an East Yorkshire village which opponents claimed would spoil views of an ancient standing stone have been withdrawn.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council was due to debate proposals by W D Sellers & Sons for the mast half-a-mile outside Rudston, near Driffield, saying any harm would be outweighed by its capability to create “green” electricity.

The Ministry of Defence objected to the plans, saying the turbine would interfere with the radar system at nearby RAF Staxton Wold, while 129 people signed protest postcards.

The scheme had been recommended for refusal by planners.
