Sneak-in burglary warning

A SPATE of sneak-in burglaries across has prompted a warning from North Yorkshire Police for people to secure their homes and keep valuables out of sight.

Communities in Selby, Scarborough and Ryedale have been particularly affected, with respective three per cent and 12 per cent rises in domestic burglary between April and the end of September.

A smaller number of break-ins have also occurred in York and Harrogate. Opportunist thieves have in many instances entered insecure homes and stolen cash and personal items which, in many cases, have been visible through the windows.

Detective Chief Inspector Heather Pearson said: “While residents can be assured that we are working around the clock to deter, catch and bring burglary suspects to justice, it is still vital for people to do everything they can to ensure their homes and possessions are as secure as possible.”

bloody barstewards got into my house last week but thankfully all that was stolen was a credit and debit card and a cheque made out to my daughter. They tried to steal the games consoles but failed miserably as my partner had stashed the wires behind a wall lol

My only suggestion would be some sort of organisation paid for from our taxes who could try and minimise the risk of thieves being able to wander the streets with impunity. We could all contribute a portion of our council tax and in return the organisation would employ people to patrol the streets in highly visible yellow uniforms to deter these wanten vagabonds.

It would certainly save the police money having to employ someone on a Chief Inspector's salary to tell the public to close their windows as winter approaches must be incredibly draining on their already stretched resources.

Do you mean sight? As there is no mention of areas undergoing construction works or caravan parking areas in the above article.

Theres probably a legions of officers busy spending their days picking holes in your complaints Pete. Let them get on with their Job. Be thankful you don't live in another area. In comparison to most areas in the country York has very little crime. One day I may even come back! until then long may the sun shine.
