THE National Railway Museum in York has launched a free mobile phone app to mark the anniversary of the London to Newcastle Jubilee line service.
The East Coast Timeline App is the first free app to be developed by a museum, and offers users travelling on the East Coast Main Line the chance to explore the differences between journeys taking place from the 1870s through to the 1970s.
The NRM said it allows users to view travel through time periods with an interactive journey map. There is also the chance to create vintage posters and compare images of historic carriage interiors All of which is hoped will take research beyond the museum and out to travellers on the move.
Joe Savage, interpretation manager at the NRM, said: “We hope people will use the app to explore our collection in different ways – maybe share a vintage poster featuring themselves with friends via social media.”
