Minster joins ARCH enemies campaign

A CAMPAIGN to tackle crime against the UK’s historic buildings and heritage sites has been given the backing of officials at York Minster.
The Minster is now one of more than 100 organisations to sign up to the Alliance to Reduce Crime against Heritage (ARCH).
The backing of the Minster comes following a report by English Heritage which shows three out of every eight religious buildings were damaged by crime in 2011.
Dr Simon Thurley, chief executive of English Heritage, said: “The figures are alarming, particularly for our churches. While heritage is not necessarily being targeted over other places, save perhaps for their valuable materials and artefacts, they are suffering a substantial rate of attrition from crime nonetheless.”
Joining ARCH means the Minster will join other heritage organisations in raising awareness of the problem of crime to historic properties and to inspire local action.
