CHILDREN in York are gearing up to play their part in the city’s Big Community Challenge, which starts next week.

The annual event which aims to improve the lives of different communities starts on Tuesday and will see 150 volunteers, including staff from The Press, working to transform Greenfields at Haxby Road into an outdoor classroom and community gardens.

The project is run by York Cares, which brings together leading employers in a bid to make York a better place.
