Can you give a dog a home?

THEY might be getting on a bit but these five lovable dogs are sweet-natured golden oldies who desperately need a new home.

Because of the ages of greyhounds Mack, Aider and Zoe, whippet cross Tilly and collie Shep, the RSPCA’s animal re-homing centre in Landing Lane is issuing an urgent plea for help in finding each dog the home they are waiting for.

Kim Puttock, centre manager, said: “These dogs have arrived at the York Animal Home in the last four to six months but because of their size are frequently overlooked.

“They have spent most of their lives in loving homes but have come to us for genuine reasons and through no fault of their own. They are all elderly dogs that are struggling in kennels and need to be back in a family environment.”

Mack is 12 years old and was taken to the York Animal Home when his owner died. “He is hoping someone will come through the door soon as he is missing being a part of a family,” said Kim.

“He is good with other large dogs when out and about, but at this time of his life we think he would prefer to be the only pet in his new home.”

Eight-year-old greyhound Aider is described as a lovely-natured girl who would love to be part of a devoted family. She came into the home with fellow greyhound Zoe, who at the age of 11 “would really like to be enjoying her retirement in a loving cosy home”, said Kim.

She described Zoe as “a really sweet-natured girl”. Both Zoe and Aider are good with large dogs and children over the age of eight, but cannot be rehomed into a home with cats.

While Zoe and Aider can be rehomed separately they have been living together for several years and would love to re-homed as a pair.

Shep is a “sweet and loveable” nine-year-old collie who came in in “a sorry state”, said Kim.

He is now fit and healthy and could be rehomed in a home where he is the only pet. He could live with children over the age on ten.

Tilly is a 12-year-old who is “a very happy and extremely friendly lady who just showers everyone she meets with cuddles and kisses”, said Kim. Tilly is good with other dogs but would need to be rehomed as an only dog. She she could live with children over the age of five.
