MINOR injury units at hospitals in Selby and Malton could be closed as part of health service cuts.p>
Health chiefs have said at a meeting this morning that possible closure or shortening of hours at the two North Yorkshire hositals could be part of a solution to clawing back a £19 million deficit as well as stops to some minor non-urgent surgery. Residents are being warned to expect “radical and unpalatable” spending cuts, in a recent report into the crisis.
NHS North Yorkshire and York ’s Cluster Board are currently meeting at the Priory Street Centre to hear where cuts can be expected.
Christopher Long, the trust’s chief executive, warned that “immediate and extraordinary measures” were needed.
He said: “If the risk of overspend is not managed, there is a significant threat that the organisation will not be able to make payments to trusts, GPs and other contractors for services and products such as drugs.”
