Plans for student flats on show

PLANS to build 250 student flats on the site of a former York garage, which has been occupied by squatters, will go on show on Thursday in St Laurence Church Hall, in Lawrence Street, between 4pm and 7pm.

Black Lion Ltd has submitted proposals to City of York Council for two accommodation blocks to replace the building which once housed the Reg Vardy car dealership and Bubbles car wash.

250 flats ? ye gods, York is losing all its character to shoe box flats for poxy students.

You come down Hull road / Lawrence Street now to be faced with the new monstrosity of flats that was once the dairy, opposite more shoe box flats, 200 yds down the road and more flats.

What about social housing for those in real need of homes ? how much of a back hander will the council get for passing the planning on this.
