Plans for 250 new homes in Tadcaster

PLANS have been unveiled for almost 250 new homes in a North Yorkshire town.
Wharfe Bank Limited wants to build the apartments and houses on a riverside site off Mill Lane, in Tadcaster , which was used for warehouses before the buildings were demolished.
Proposals handed in to Selby District Council have outlined a development for 211 one and two-bedroom flats, 27 two-bedroom and ten three-bedroom houses.
A decision on the scheme is expected before the end of the year.
If approved, the project would also include a small hydro-electric station and parking space, including underground car-parking, with 41 of the properties being made available as affordable housing. Public open space would be provided within the development.
A submitted planning statement said it would be a “large addition to the housing stock” in Tadcaster, but would help with “regeneration and housing need” in the town and approval had previously been granted for residential development in the area, close to the River Wharfe.
“The potential for the development to have an adverse effect on significant buildings, such as the listed viaduct, St Mary’s Church and features of the Tadcaster Conservation Area have been fully considered, and it is clear none of these important assets will be adversely affected,” said the developers’ statement.
“Residents will enjoy dedicated private outdoor amenity space where possible and where not possible, free and easy access to areas of shared open space in the form of play areas and riverside walks. Developing this underused brownfield site with a high-quality residential development will enhance the views both into and out of the conservation area.”
The application said the hydro-electric plant was intended to draw power from the river, with the area being “extremely attractive” for such a scheme. It said “structures and features” which were part of the old Ingleby’s Mill were still in place in the basement of a warehouse at the site, and these could be used as part of the project. adding measures would be taken to ensure it did not create too much noise.

THE OLD BREWERY TADCASTER so i suspect sams will know!!!
Whilst i welcome the boost in housing and the return of the small hydroelectricidy plant it would boost the town greatly if he opened up the multitude of properties he has bought in tadcaster and then boarded up making the place look like a ghost town

It allegedly has nothing to do with helping anyone else but fulfilling his own greed - as we all know he allegedly doesn't give a **** about anyone else, as demonstrated on many occasions, i.e. forcing school kids to walk alongside a busy road, rather than via a safe route he's objected to.
He has cost the local authority a lot of money in the past, in legal fights to get his own way. The local authority should turn down all of his planning applications, simply on principal, until Mr Smith start behaving properly (although very unlikely).
