Smoke pours from an upstairs window Smoke pours from an upstairs window

A FIRE broke out in the kitchen of a house in Millfield Avenue, off Hull Road in York, while the occupants were out.

Firefighters were called at about 10.15am yesterday after neighbours spotted smoke coming from the windows of the property.

A fire officer at the scene said he understood the fire started in the kitchen, but that smoke had spread through the house.

One neighbour, Brian Macey, said: “I was at my front window just looking out and I saw neighbours running around then I heard the fire engines coming.

“They put breathing apparatus on and then opened the door and went in. They then started opening the windows and the smoke just came billowing out.”

Nobody was hurt.
