High praise for York’s retiring Archdeacon

THE Archbishop of York was joined at Selby Abbey by bishops, archdeacons, clergy and members of congregations from across North Yorkshire to celebrate the work of the Archdeacon of York, the Venerable Richard Seed.
Mr Seed is retiring from the role of Archdeacon next month, but will remain as a residentiary canon at York Minster and a member of the Minster’s Chapter.
He was instrumental in setting up Martin House children’s hospice at Boston Spa during his time as vicar of St Mary’s in the village, and he is also rector of Holy Trinity Church, Micklegate.
The Archbishop, Dr John Sentamu, said the Abbey had stood as a beacon of faith in the area for nearly 1,000 years.
“It is right that we come together here to celebrate Richard Seed’s support and service to the Church in this Diocese,” he said.
“Richard offers an enormous pastoral heart, not least demonstrated with his continued involvement at Martin House Hospice.”
