Stewards wanted for lights festival

THE organisers of Illuminating York are looking for people who would like to volunteer as a festival steward.

The Press reported recently how the Museum Gardens will be transformed into a “magical wonderland” when the Illuminating York Festival is staged there between October 31 and November 3.

Three large-scale cutting edge projections will light up the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey, the Yorkshire Museum and part of the City Walls as part of the York 800 celebrations.

Now organisers have appealed for volunteers over the age of 18 who would be available on one or more of the evenings and also for a one-hour briefing at 7pm on Tuesday, October 30.

It's a real shame that residents are being charged. Surely it should be free for York Card holders.

Volunteer and get in for free....alas I'm away when this is on, so have to give it a miss this year.

I agree with the charging--the show will have costs. But don't then ask for volunteers when you're looking to make a profit? No wonder there is so much unemployment when everywhere is expecting you to work for free.

Exactly what I was thinking. First off the admission fee is £5, and then they ask for people to give up their evening time UNPAID to work watching for the safety of people paying to get in. The two simply don't add up.
