A CYCLIST who suffered serious head injuries in a collision with a stationary vehicle in York is in a critical condition in hospital.
The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was taken by ambulance to York Hospital following the accident yesterday afternoon in Bishopthorpe Road where her condition has been described as "critical".
Traffic Sergeant Hamish Halloway said she was cycling towards York when she ran into the back of a black Saab car which was parked and unoccupied on the road near the entrance to the former Terry’s chocolate factory. She was wearing a cycle helmet at the time.
He said members of the public came to her aid until the ambulance arrived, but none of them had witnessed the accident.
He appealed for anyone who saw the accident or had any useful information to call 101 and leave information for his attention.
The road was shut for some hours in both directions between Campleshon Road, and Church Lane, Bishopthorpe, with traffic diverted along local roads.
