Canon Lee School has welcomed its new head teacher, Christine Holbrey.

Miss Holbrey has worked as a teacher for more than 22 years, and was previously deputy head teacher at York High School and acting head teacher at Lowfield School.

This summer, Canon Lee achieved its best results ever, ranking it 4th in the City for the five A*-C including English and maths, making it the fastest improving school in York, and Miss Holbrey said she had enjoyed her first week.

Miss Holbrey said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Canon Lee School. The staff and students have been incredibly welcoming during my first few days and the fantastic results achieved this summer under the previous head teacher, Kevin Deadman, provide great foundations on which to build and improve even further.

“My initial impressions of Canon Lee as a vibrant, positive and happy school committed to providing a quality education and, by virtue of its size, clearly able to respond to the needs of individual students has only strengthened over the last week. Students should be commended on their positive start to the new school year.”

Dee Duffield, Canon Lee chairman of governors, said: “It’s great to welcome Miss Holbrey to the team. We are all extremely proud of the progress that Canon Lee has made over the last few years, and the students and staff that have turned ambition into reality. Miss Holbrey will galvanise that dedication and ability within the school to ensure new levels of achievement, so Canon Lee is a school the whole city can be proud of.”

I wish this woman well but by god - "My initial impressions of Canon Lee as a vibrant, positive and happy school committed to providing a quality education and, by virtue of its size, clearly able to respond to the needs of individual students has only strengthened over the last week. Students should be commended on their positive start to the new school year.”

What on earth is that? Modern school heads espousing private sector style CEO speak? Heads never used to say things like that.

Briefing will be large.
