Ideas for dealing with dementia every day
9:08am Thursday 20th September 2012 in News
A COMMUNITY forum in York is launching a new challenge to businesses, local groups and residents to come up with ways of helping people with dementia take more control over the lives.
The GeniUS! initiative – backed by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, City of York Council and Science City York – is looking for ideas on how to make the city more dementia-friendly and help those with the illness feel more socially included.
Proposals which could help sufferers deal with daily tasks more confidently or secure more support need to be submitted to the forum by November 2, and those behind some of the most promising solutions will be invited to make a short presentation to a panel of judges during York Business Week.
This will take place at the Create Your Future event on November 12 at the Hospitium in the Museum Gardens.
Winners will be announced on the day and a budget of up to £10,000 will be offered to invest in a pilot of the best idea in the city next year.
For more information and to submit ideas, visit geniusyork.com or follow @GeniUSYork on twitter.

completely unrelated. This group is designed to work to bring together ideas from across all business, resident, academic and council folk in the city, to hopefully find the best ways to help our community tackle the challenges dementia brings. We hope to positively change things in the city in addition to the existing services and groups. We hope you can also help, please check out www.geniusyork.com to see how you can be involved.
Thanks
