Firefighters rescue men trapped 40ft above the ground

FIREFIGHTERS rescued two men trapped against a building 40ft above the ground in a broken-down cherry picker in North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service were called at 12.28pm on Tuesday after reports that the men, both in their 50s, were stuck outside in the cherry picker a building in Belle Vue Square, Skipton.

The men had been clearing some guttering when the cherry picker malfunctioned – causing the machinery to fall against the building on two wheels – leaving the men trapped.

Two fire crews helped rescue the men. No one was injured.

Basic risk assessment.

Basic rescue procedure.

Where was the guy at the bottom?

Glyn,

I am sure that is something that the HSE will be looking at with their investigation.

The beauty of the law at present is that due to a non suitable and sufficent risk assessment with relevant and robust controls you effectively write your own prosecution because the incident has occurred.

Lovely!
