STAFF from the Asda store at Monk’s Cross have been doing their bit for the environment with a litter pick.

A team of managers and collegues spent a rainy afternoon in New Earswick cleaning up public areas.

The litter pick was part of a Asda’s nationwide inititive to get staff involved in helping their local community.

The York store has taken on a number of projects in the the New Earswick neighbourhood, specifically focusing on keeping areas where children play safe and clean.

Brian Appleton, the store manager, said: “Helping in the community is really rewarding for our staff – it’s great to be able to give something back to our local customers.

“We had a great afternoon despite the weather, and we were very kindly warmed up with tea and coffee at the Folk Hall afterwards.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported the initiative.”
