Matt Bowman serves cocktails in Gibsons bar, Micklegate

FANS of The Pigeon Detectives can now see one of their heroes on a regular basis in York – behind a city-centre bar.

Matt Bowman, lead singer of the Leeds-based chart-topping band, can be found on weekdays serving cocktails at Gibsons bar near Micklegate Bar.

Matt is going into the business with long-term friends Jon and Lee Wilkinson.

The two brothers and Matt are relaunching the bar, formerly known as Montey’s Rock Café.

Jon, who used to be the manager of Montey’s, said: “After a few teething problems we have re-branded the bar. I’ve known Matt for years and I’m looking forward to working with him to make this a success.”

Regulars of the old Montey’s will be pleased to knows that Gibsons will be retaining some of the traditional rock ‘n’ roll elements.

“We will still be playing rock ‘n’ roll music and are still serving our 2-4-1 cocktails,” said Jon. “But now we’ll also be opening from midday daily to go with our new locally-sourced food menu.”

Bowman, who will be serving behind the bar two or three times a week, said: “I have always been interested in the bar industry and it is a bit of a dream to be involved in my own bar.

“I’m really excited about this project”.

The new Pigeon Detectives album is due to be released later this year.
