DETECTIVES investigating an assault which left a Selby man unconscious, have released images of a witness and a suspect they need to trace.

It happened at the Jet filling station, Bawtry Road, at about 9.40pm on Thursday September 6, when the 22-year-old man tried to stop thieves from stealing fuel from the garage.

The man officers believe to be a crucial witness was captured on CCTV inside the forecourt shop at around the same time as the victim. At the time he was wearing a white tee-shirt and left the store just prior to the victim.

The suspect was caught on CCTV on the garage forecourt. He is around 5ft 8in tall and was wearing dark trousers, a blue tracksuit top and glasses.

Detective Constable Amanda Bostwick, of Selby CID, said: “I am asking the man who was in the forecourt shop, shortly prior to the assault, to come forward as I believe he has vital information that could help to indentify the men responsible for the assault.

“If you recognise the man who was caught on CCTV on the garage forecourt I urge you to contact the police straight away.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact on 101, press option 2 and ask for Amanda Bostwick.
