Viewers urged to recycle old television sets
8:14am Tuesday 18th September 2012 in News
VIEWERS across North Yorkshire are being urged to use the region’s digital TV switchover to increase recycling rates.
The Tyne Tees region, whose coverage is received in some areas of North Yorkshire, is the last in England to change from an analogue to a digital signal, with the first part of the switch taking place last week and the second phase scheduled for September 26. North Yorkshire County Council is encouraging residents who have to buy new TVs for the changes to recycle their old sets at one of the authority’s 20 household waste recycling centres.
Up to 98 per cent of the materials salvaged from old televisions can be recycled. Coun Chris Metcalfe, executive member for waste management, said: “The digital switchover does not need to create more waste.
“If people take their TVs to one of our recycling centres, the council will make sure they are all recycled safely.”
More information about the changeover can be found at digitaluk.co.uk , while you can find the location of your nearest recycling centre and its opening times at northyorks.gov.uk/hwrc or by phoning 01609 532512.

Since the digi retune in July and including this one I cannot get Yorkshire on my digibox no matter how I try when previously I could, so therefore my TV is scrap as no good getting only Tyne Tees news.
No more Christa and Harry at Look North!
