A1 crash driver named

THE man who died in a three-vehicle crash on the A1 last week has been named by police.

Wayne Howen, 38, from Ingleby Barwick, was driving a heavy goods vehicle carrying bottled gas, when his vehicle collided with a combine harvester parked in a lay by on the A1, at junction 51 between Leeming Bar and Scotch Corner, south of Catterick, at about 2am on Wednesday, September 12.

The lorry was then struck by a HGV which was towing a curtain side trailer.

An inquest into Mr Howen’s death was opened and adjourned at Northallerton today.

North Yorkshire Police have asked anyone with information which could assist the investigation into the crash to contact them on 101.
