RABBITS will be jumping for joy if their owners heed the message of Warren the Battle Flatts Rabbit.

He spent the weekend touring the York area to remind humans that pet rabbits need regular check-ups and vaccinations, just as cats and dogs do.

Dawn Adnett, of Battle Flatts Veterinary Practice, in Strensall , said many pet owners didn’t realise that the wrong type of food can give rabbits major tooth problems and that they can be killed by diseases such as myxomatosis.

The practice is offering free check-ups for rabbits until September 22 as part of Rabbit Awareness Week.

Warren visited Clifford’s Tower, a farm shop in Strensall where he tried out a trampoline and Pets At Home at Clifton Moor , among other places.

“It was quite a good day,” he said afterwards. “Especially at the farm shop.”
