ARCHAEOLOGISTS are hoping to discover remains of buildings in the grounds of the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall, in York.

Liah Colbourne, a student of archaeology at the University of York , has been using ground penetrating radar to try to detect structural remains as part of her degree work.

She said: “Because the hall is Grade I listed, we can’t dig up the grounds but we believe there may be remains of a Norman mansion or ancient chapel. Hopefully the radar readings will be able to give us an idea about what’s below.”

The Merchant Adventurer’s Hall is a medieval building more than 650 years old, and is now a wedding and hospitality venue and museum.
