Performers are urged to take part in this year’s Y Factor
UP-AND-COMING performers have been urged to take part in a live event at this year’s York Festival Of Food And Drink.
Now in its 16th year, the festival will feature scores of events around the city, with celebrities and Michelin star-winning chefs cooking with local produce at venues between September 21 and 30.
The Fountain Marquee, in Parliament Street, is this year being sponsored by The Press, and will include a host of live music events, including the Y Factor talent competition on Sunday, September 23.
Festival organiser Michael Hjort said: “This is the fourth year we’ve run the Y Factor, and it’s been really successful previously. We’re expecting to be even more so this year.
“It’s a great opportunity for anyone, talented or not, to get involved with the festival. Have a go for a bit of fun, and part of our contribution to making the early evening in York more exciting.”
Anyone wishing to take part in the event needs to email a brief description of their act, and organisers will contact them with confirmation of their allocated time.
Michael said: “The Fountain Marquee comes equipped with speakers, amps and microphones, so people just need to bring their own instruments, plug in and play.”
Up to 20 bands will also showcase their talents for charity at the Fountain Marquee, as part of the Live At Five Oxjam event. Oxjam runs throughout October, with hundreds of free music events around the country, which all raise money to help save lives around the world.
Other musical events at the marquee, which all run from 5pm, include folk, country and jazz group Keystone Acoustic on Friday, September 21, Eclectic Sparks and Undercovered on Saturday, September 29.
Tickets and full details about the festival are available at yorkfoodfestival.com or by phoning 01904 466687. Anyone who wants to perform in Y Factor should email admin@yorkfoodfestival.com with details of the performance, which should last about three minutes.
