Reduced hours at Clementhorpe health reception

THE health centre in Clementhorpe has announced its reception will no longer be manned on Thursdays and Fridays.

Clinical manager, Sue Bryan said the changes, which take effect next month, would not affect clinics or services offered at the centre. She said: “On these days (Thursday and Friday) an answer phone will pick up any messages.

“There also will be no availability for collecting items from the clinic or accessing services, unless by prior appointment.”

How ridiculous. Are patients not allowed to be ill on a Thursday and Friday?

I've been using this surgery for years now and every single time I've had cause to speak to a receptionist I get ignored for at least 3 or 4 minutes whilst they chat among themselves. The last time I went in, they were too busy showing holiday photos to each other to speak to me. The time before that, talking about Emmerdale. Patients are made to feel like an inconvenience who are rudely interrupting the social lives of the staff. Terrible service.

This is nothing new - Cornlands Road Clinic often has a reception closed - at least once a week.

This is my docs & am appalled that they are doing this.
With reception being manned 5 days a week you regularly can't get an appt for 2 to 3 days so heaven only knows how long it will take now.
Is Sue Bryan going to explain to employers that you were off work longer than necessary because reception was not manned and you were unable to get an appointment or even speak to your surgery- no, didn't think so.
Thanks guys - think it's time I switched

How ridiculous. A money saving idea.

What about patient results and urgent appointments on Thursday & Friday?

Answering machines - how long will that take to listen to them and respond - longer than it would if the receptionist was there.

As the GP Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group is about to take over the administration of local GP commissioning from the PCT ,I suggest a formal written complaint be made about this practice.
You can contact them initially on

No doubt that there will be an Ombudsman's review!

Like jolly good luck is all I say (the Ombudsman is off sick, not there) or things left in limbo!

No doubt that the Government will want bigger more affective GP practices - multi GPs like huge ones, like they have said for the heart surgery and elderly. Oops I guess that is to come but I bet it is on the cards!

Money saving idea, couldn't give a **** about the patient.
