Allan and Agnes Gray enjoy their 70th wedding anniversary, at The Hall Nursing Home, Thornton-le-Dale
A SCOTTISH couple who now live in Ryedale have celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Allan and Agnes Gray were both born in Glasgow and met at the Empire Exhibition in Govan in 1938.
Allan joined the army in 1939 just before the outbreak of war and when fighting broke out he was sent to Europe to work under Montgomery.
He returned to Glasgow to marry Agnes at Elder Park Parish Church, Govan, on September 5, 1942 before returning to his post in Belgium.
Allan is now 96, while Agnes is 91, and the couple have four children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Gray celebrated their special day with family members at The Hall care home in Thornton-le-Dale where the couple have lived for the past year since moving from Scotland to be closer to their son.
They said that they would like to thank staff at the home who made the special anniversary celebration such a success.
