Chance to take part in archaeological dig

RESIDENTS in York are to get the chance to take part in an archaeological dig on the site of the city’s newest Park&Ride base.

When approval was granted for the site off the A59 at Poppleton earlier this year, one of the stipulations was that the land it will be built on is assessed for its archaeological significance.

From September 24, experienced and novice archaeologists will be able to work alongside professionals on the site and play a part in every phase of the project, the first of its kind in the UK, including geophysics, field-walking, excavation, analysis and publication.

Anybody wanting to take part in the Poppleton Bar Dig can attend a public meeting in the Poppleton Centre in Main Street, Upper Poppleton, on Wednesday, September 12, at 7pm.
