£2k raised to keep rare badge in Yorkshire
THE Yorkshire Museum’s public appeal for funds to stop a silver gilt boar badge leaving the area has passed its £2,000 target.
Now the badge, which was worn by a person of high status to show his loyalty to Richard III, will go on display at the museum.
Natalie McCaul, assistant curator of archaeology, said: “We are thrilled that we are able to keep this rare badge in Yorkshire and for the public to enjoy. We would like to say thank you to all of those people who donated.”
In addition to donations from the public and local organisations, the Richard III Society pledged £2,000 which will be used to professionally clean the badge, carry out further research and create a display.
The badge was found by a treasure hunter with a metal detector in 2010 near Stillingfleet.
