LITTLE Caitlin Lidsell has had an exciting summer, watching her sunflower grow to a giant 11 feet tall.

Caitlin, aged five, was given the seed at the end of term from her school, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs RC in Holgate , York, and planted it at her step grandparents’ home in Boroughbridge Road.

Caitlin’s step-grandfather, Gareth Hill, 52, said: “We planted the seed back in June and have been watering it with tomato feed.

“We’ve just been watching it grow and grow. It’s like Jack and the Beanstalk.”

“Caitlin keeps looking up everytime she comes round. She’s in awe of it. She has taken a photo into school to show her friends. It’s flowered now, so we don’t think it will grow any more, but you never know.”
