Third arrest over fatal A19 crash

A WOMAN has been arrested in connection with the death of a 15-year-old girl in a three-car crash on Selby ’s roads.

Carly Smith, from Selby, died in the crash on the A19 between Chapel Haddlesey and Burn at about 8.15pm August 13.

Two people were arrested on August 21 in connection with the incident, but North Yorkshire Police confirmed today a third person had been arrested.

The 47-year-old woman, from the Selby area, was arrested yesterday in connection with the crash, and has since been released on bail.

The collision involved a green Ford Focus travelling towards Chapel Haddlesey and a white Vauxhall Astra, in which Carly was a passenger, and a white BMW, heading towards Burn.

Carly was killed in the collision, and the 30-year-old male driver of the Ford Focus was taken to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield in a critical condition following the incident.

The 24-year-old woman and 27-year-old man arrested earlier in the investigation remain on police bail.

A police spokesman said investigations into the cause of the crash were still continuing, and urged anyone who saw the incident, or any of the vehicles before the crash, to contact them as soon as possible.
