GENERATIONS of a York family have celebrated two milestone wedding anniversaries with a special gathering of well-wishers.
Ian and Carol Boswell marked their 35th wedding anniversary with a special riverboat cruise on Monday, alongside Carol’s parents Christopher and Lilian Bramley, who toasted 60 years of marriage.
Liz Pawson, Ian and Carol’s daughter, who helped organise the event along with her sister Laura Collier, said: “They got married in Dunnington on my grandparents’ 25th wedding anniversary, which they planned, and we did a riverboat cruise to celebrate. We’ve done it before, for my grandparent’s 50th and 55th anniversary so it’s become a family tradition.”
Both couples met as teenagers. Christopher and Lilian first met in York while he was serving in the Army after the Second World War. The couple who live in Piccadilly, married at York Register office.
Carol and Ian, who first met at Fulford Youth Centre, married at St Nicholas Church in Dunnington and now live in Skelton .
Both couples were joined at the party by 48 of their closest friends and family, and the family surprised Christopher and Lilian with a VIP trip on the London Eye, which they will be taking at a later date, and a special cake baked by Liz’s nephew Oscar.
Liz said: “Everyone had a great time. My dad made a speech which talked about miracles, because he said it was a miracle my grandparents had stayed together for 60 years – they’re always bickering, but in a friendly way. Lilian’s friend presented her with a gold medal, for endurance, which we thought was funny too. We all want to say thank you to everyone who came along, to make it such a special night.”
