New plans drawn up for £8m homes scheme in Huntington

DEVELOPERS have submitted a new planning application for an £8 million housing scheme in Huntington in York.

Barratt Homes said it had consulted local residents and City of York Council and came up with improved proposals after 160 people attended a public exhibition in July.

The firm wants to build 86 one to four-bedroom homes off New Lane, with 30 designated as affordable houses. Priority for those will be given to people currently living in the Huntington area, through a scheme led by a local housing association.

The plans also now include a new traffic-light crossing on New Lane, following queries about pedestrian access, and a large green public open space for residents.

Paul Butler, head of planning for Barratt in Yorkshire, said: “We are pleased to have been able to respond positively to the feedback we received at the public exhibition. After further discussions with the local authority, we have confirmed the number of affordable homes and have included a commitment to ensure local people have the first opportunity to live in these properties.

“Quite a few people questioned how pedestrians would be able to safely cross New Lane, so we are also proposing a new pedestrian crossing to improve the link to the rest of Huntington.

“We’re excited about bringing new, affordable family homes to Huntington.”

Only 30 affordable out of 86? How will they sell the 56 that are unaffordable?

By the time Barratts sell 30 at a loss, part exchange 50% of the others and do shared equity on the rest I suspect their cash generation from the project will be negative. How do they do it?

Well I see the comments on this topic being broad and varried and not the same person repeating the same boring points over and over and over and over again.

Will someone call Mark Warters?

As for "affordable housing" Barratts won't be making a loss on any of the houses, just making a bit less profit than they'd like.

Any chance of being made aware exactly where on New Lane this is going to be?
Yes I was thinking this too... whilst houses are required, I would like to think my current view of Garrowby Hill won't get blocked out
