Festival Of Cycling celebrates best of two wheels

CYCLISTS will be heading to York’s Rowntree Park this weekend when a Festival Of Cycling is staged.
All types of pedal-powered bikes, from everyday two-wheelers to specialised three and four-wheelers, along with mega bikes seating up to eight people, will be available for people to try out.
There will also be daredevil cycling stunt shows from The Clan on Saturday and Savage Skills on Sunday. BMX fans can also try out their skills.
The festival runs from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, with free admission.
The last two Festivals Of Cycling were run as part of the Cycling City initiative, but the event is now part of iTravel York, an initiative funded from central government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund to encourage non-congesting modes of travel, to improve air quality and to help boost the local economy.
There will therefore be information on walking, bus travel, journey planning, and car sharing, and electric vehicles from Toyota, Mia and Smart will be on show.

Not really a lot to 'celebrate' is there!
Will they being having a minutes silence for the recent loss of the cycle lane at Clifton Green?

On the other hand, I recently strolled past a couple of cars that were blocking Bootham Terrace because they couldn't get out, due to the usual tailback of gridlocked vehicles stretching all the way back from Bootham Bar past Burton Stone Lane. Just as at Clifton Green, it has nothing to do with the provision of a cycle lane: it's simply down to the volume of traffic.

It had nothing to do with congestion, and the fact it has been removed has just wasted £12k that could have been better spent filling potholes... especially as the public consulation gave a 70% 'leave it as-is' result.

It is a celebration of bicycles.
When there's a beer festival at Knavesmire do people debate street drinkers?
Does the motor show at the NEC cause outcry over traffic jams on the M1?
No.
My bike is my transport, it's not my politics.
