Margaret Sentamu, the wife of the Archbishop of York , and the actress Miriam Margolyes met up at a fundraising dinner for York Theatre Royal’s Youth Theatre held in the De Grey Rooms, York.

The archbishop’s wife described herself as an “armchair fan” of Blackadder, one of the many TV programmes the actress has starred in. She also played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films.

Both women praised young actors who gave a performance and speeches to the dinner and the work of the youth theatre, which is the largest in the country.

Ms Margolyes was in York to perform in her one-woman show Dickens’ Women, at the Theatre Royal last night. It was also being staged at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough today and tomorrow.
