Brian Saynor is cheered on his way by pupils at Stamford Bridge Primary School
A CYCLIST has arrived in Bridlington at the end of a 170- mile coast-to-coast ride, having been cheered off by scores of schoolchildren as he started the final lap in Stamford Bridge.
Brian Saynor, 74, a retired York quantity surveyor who lives in Stamford Bridge, has raised more than £1,500 for repairs to the village swimming pool.
Having last been on a “serious” cycle ride more than half a century ago, he started the Way Of The Roses ride at Morecombe last week.
His wife, Hilary, said he took some very steep hills in his stride, often pedalling up rather than walking.
He started the final section from Stamford Bridge Primary School yesterday morning, when he was seen off by more than 100 junior pupils on their first day back at school.
About £20,000 is needed for immediate repairs to the village pool, but in the long run about £50,000 may be needed to improve the way the water is heated.
